Mindful Observation
We open our hives only when absolutely necessary. By monitoring external activity and hive weight, we reduce internal disruptions, keeping the bees calm and their carefully regulated climate intact.
A haven for our urban pollinators, built on respect, patience, and a deep connection to the natural rhythms of the hive.
Support Our Bees
Founded with a passion for local pollinators, Hive & Hollow began with a single rescued swarm rehomed safely in a quiet urban garden. From those early days of careful observation and learning, we grew into a small, dedicated network of hives thoughtfully placed to thrive among city blooms.
We believe that beekeeping is a partnership. Our journey has always been about fostering a resilient bee population rather than maximizing production. Every decision we make prioritizes the health and happiness of the colony.
We open our hives only when absolutely necessary. By monitoring external activity and hive weight, we reduce internal disruptions, keeping the bees calm and their carefully regulated climate intact.
Instead of forcing bees to build on artificial plastic foundations, we allow them to draw their own natural beeswax comb. This supports their natural communication and provides a cleaner environment for brood rearing.
We never strip a hive bare. Our bees overwinter on their own carefully gathered honey stores, which provides the complex nutrition they need to survive the colder months strongly and naturally.
True sustainability in the apiary means looking beyond the borders of the hive. We actively advocate for diverse urban planting and pesticide-free gardening to ensure our bees—and all native pollinators—have access to clean, abundant forage.
When we do harvest, it is done by hand in small, seasonal batches. This low-impact approach minimizes waste, preserves the unique botanical profile of the honey, and respects the tireless work of the colony.
For the safety and quietude of our colonies, we operate a closed apiary and do not offer general public tours. However, we are always eager to connect with fellow honey lovers, prospective hive adopters, and community partners.
